DESCRIPTION:
APW - Waltham, Appleton Tracy & Co, model 1857, 18S, 18K original CJ & Bro HC with gold cuvette, KWKS, WE-SSD with AT&Co signature, lever escapement, 15J, gilt mvt, s#16541. Movement is from a run listed in factory records as made in April, 1859 and features an early appearance of a compensation balance which is also noted in the factory record. Gross weight of assembled watch 78.3 dwt (121.8 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, wound tight, balance gummy, center wheel pinion seems likely broken under dial as hands tip from side to side, fine mvt condition overall, gilt plates with darkened tone, oxide on regulator index and some screwheads; dial with hl below seconds-register, hl between 7 and 8, disk of seconds-register a somewhat darker color; hands and setting arbor are rusted; case shows medium wear, profuse MFS and scattered FS, some denting to rear, acid stain to center part of inner surface of cuvette, engraving and ET entirely lost on rear and greatly lost on front; tight bow thinned at top, brass push shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
